Fancy Flats for Summer 2012: Embellished ballerina flats & sandals

We all love skyscraper heels and statement wedges, but there comes a time when you're looking for a fabulous flat, and this summer will not disappoint! The Spring/Summer 2012 runway shows were full of decorative and formal flats, and now the time has come for that runway trend to convert to our reality.

Ballerina flats and thong sandals are certainly nothing new here on the site, but this is a fresh look at flats for formal looks.. whether it's an evening event in a side-split maxi dress, an afternoon party in a sassy neon print mini dress, or even a night out in cropped leather pants.

The key here is look for embellishment - and the more the better. I have to give special mention to Miu Miu for a fun "glitter" collection.. check out these absolutely stunning Crab Sandals in Geranium, with embellished crystals. They are remarkable, and will last for many seasons to come. It's also important to mention that you do get what you pay for with this trend - spend a few more dollars, and your embellished flats WILL last for a number of years. For mid-range sandals, you can't beat Marc by Marc Jacobs or kate spade.. the quality is there, and the sparkle is aplenty!
