One of the most popular pieces on our site last summer was a profile on all the interesting & fabulous shoe designs, it was appropriated titled "The Art of Shoes". And here we are, almost 12 months later, ready to take another look at some fabulous new designs for Summer 2011.

We now call this "The Art of the Wedge".. and while the wedge heel isn't a brand new trend, exciting new designs have breathed new life into this footwear standard!

Celebrities have embraced major labels like Christian Louboutin, Brian Atwood and Jimmy Choo, and many of their new season arrivals continue to sell out quickly. And while celebrity style continues to influence trends, there are some fantastic designs to choose from, in a variety of price ranges. Giuseppe Zanotti also receives celebrity coverage, and we have seen the new season La Rocque (with the jewelled ankle-strap) a few times already. These are so hot, we have listed them twice! The selection below covers an assortment of designers, but special mention has to go to both Lanvin and Alexander McQueen for some magnificent designs. Lanvin has managed to reinvent the wedge with this animal print perspex filled wedge heel, it is both dramatic and very fashion forward. An 'object d'art', so to speak!

For your own new season wedge, the message here is to embrace the unusual, and feel free to explore your inner fashionista! On the other hand, if you prefer a more conservative style, you still can't go wrong with the basic wedge. It remains a very important shoe trend in 2011.
