Spring 2012 Crochet Trend: Versace Cutout Stretch Crochet Knit Top & more shopping the trend!

Lace has been a very important trend in the past few seasons, from black and white, to bright shades of colour (who can forget Kate Middleton in her blue Erdem lace dress during that trip to Canada last July?). And if you're a fan of lace, you will love these crochet knits for Spring/Summer 2012 - so delicate and light they could almost pass for lace.

Celebrities usually get a head start on fashion trends (they have access to runway dresses well before they are available online!), and we saw a couple of recent notable wearings of crochet. Sarah Jessica Parker looked fantastic at the New York Premiere of 'I Don't Know How She Does It" in a sleek black maxi by Antontio Berardi - the shorter version of her dress can now be found over at Net-A-Porter UK, it's on sale and there are a few sizes left. And Jessica Biel shimmered in a gold v-neck crochet sequined dress by Oscar de la Renta just last week at W Magazine's Golden Globe Celebration. Both of them perfect examples of the trend - minimal, uncluttered, but intricate and elegant.

There are new shapes and styles in black crochet that should be on your must-see list if you have an upcoming evening event. If you're in the midst of cold winter months like some of us, avoid cream and white crochet for now, as it is a little soon... the black pieces, however, will be right up your alley. They look fresh and interesting, and appropriate for the season right now, but you can also wear them right through the summer months (when the statement pumps will turn into strappy sandals!).
