If you thought raffia (or straw) bags & totes were casual, you need to take a closer look at this new trend for Spring/Summer 2011.. We have long associated raffia bags with the beach - fun straw totes that carry your towel, book, lotion & sunglasses.. but unless you have a cabana at your disposal, I don't recommend taking these designer bags to the shore! This is an extension of the natural trend which also includes linen, cork, canvas & rope, and some of your favourite designers have used this opportunity to produce some pretty fabulous bags.
Jennifer Love Hewitt was the first celebrity we saw carrying Valentino's new lace & raffa tote, and you can buy it online at Neiman Marcus. Jimmy Choo, Gucci, Fendi have all produced raffia bags.. even Dolce & Gabbana has offered up their signature Miss Sicily in raffia.
