Peplum Trend for Fall 2012 - new look at fit & flare

You have seen peplum dresses on the red carpet, and peplum cocktail dresses have been quite popular this season.. but did you know the Peplum Trend for Fall/Winter 2012 goes well beyond evening items?

We have covered the fit & flared trend already here, and you might say this is an extension! Peplums can be found on everything this season - dresses, jackets, tops, skirts and even the occasional trouser (Alexander McQueen), which means you have lots of choices how to embrace the trend.

For the office, you will obviously skip the strapless dresses (!) and go straight for the neat and chic look. A belted peplum top over tailored trousers, or knitwear with peplum hem over a pencil skirt, paired with black ankle boots. There are daytime peplum dresses as well, and you just can't go wrong with basic black, or a solid dark color. For a more feminine look, a peplum skirt can be worn with a simple fitted jersey top, or crewneck sweater. Again, pair it with an ankle boot or smooth statement pump - you want the attention to be at the waist, so keep your footwear simple and unadorned.

For the evenings, add some sparkle - Topshop's navy sequined top, or a metallic brocade top courtesy of Elizabeth & James - either of these worn with leather pants will get you noticed, whether it's this weekend, or right through the holidays. And for the more fashion forward among us, a peplum attached to anything leather (skirt, dress, jacket or top) is a must-have this season! Something for everyone below.. in every price range..
