Fall 2011 Fashion Trend: Mad for plaid - a fresh look at tartan this season!

- Season: Fall 2011
This season there is a new take on the country classic as we go 'Mad for Plaid' in Fall/Winter 2011! It's easy to associate plaid and tartan with traditional fabrics and comfortable pieces, but this season your plaid gets sharper and the colour combinations have become more interesting.
For those fans of tradition, you can still get your fix as a couple of standout collections used plenty of red & black - Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen went back to the designer's plaid roots, and Isabel Marant launched a diffusion look in a similar shade of plaid. The colour may be traditional, but the pieces below will still give your wardrobe a new-season kick.
If you wear a plaid separates with your outfit, this isn't the season to get creative with wacky colours - stick to the same colour palette of the plaid. Neutrals & browns should be paired with cream and ivory. Red & black should be worn with black, red or even a crisp white shirt. And if you love greens & blues, just make sure you accessorize in the same family (or tone it down with grey or black).
Trend Tip: Update your look now with a snappy little plaid jacket, paired with skinny jeans and favourite tee. And for the office, you will be pleasantly surprised how much wear you can get out of a plaid skirt this season! It's a very versatile item - you can wear it with shirts, blouses, knitwear, simple tops.. and with boots or pumps.
