If you're looking to add some extra kick to your look this season, how about a fabulous cape? This is a terrific way to move your look forward without going through a major style makeover.

Outerwear trends don't change dramatically from year to year - after all, how many times do you look in your closet and think your trusted old winter coat "will do"..? While you may think it's fine... did you know that a new coat or jacket can completely transform your look?

Capes are both fun and functional, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. If you want to gently add this trend to your wardrobe, consider a jacket style with cape effect (see the Diane von Furstenberg jacket below). Or a hip-length cape that almost disguises itself as a little swing coat.

As for colors, look no further than all the current trends - shades of grey, navy blue, dramatic blue, olive green, and military influences. For the office, wear your cape with elegant trousers and ankle boots, but for the weekend, go sassy with a mini skirt and over-the-knee boots. And a cape
with skinny jeans? Perfect.
