The most anticipated show during Paris Fashion Week marked a return to classic fashion, as Raf Simons presented his first haute couture collection for Christian Dior (since moving over from Jil Sander).
If you follow fashion history, Christian Dior was known his love of architectural design, and this collection reflected the timelessness of those classic shapes & styles. Ballgown-style dresses with full skirts, tuxedo jackets (modeled after Dior's signature Bar jacket), and fluid silks that could grace the 1950s as easily as today. This was less about red carpet fashion, and more about the clientele who actually buy and wear couture. And with interest in Celebrity Fashion at an all time high, it's easy to forget the purpose of couture is precision craftsmanship - awards show fashion came much later!
