Delicate and sheer, feminine and structured.. any of these words can be used to describe Christian Dior's latest couture collection. The runway consisted of contrasting black and white, light blush, splashes of sheer purple and even a spectacular red ballgown that we expect to see at the upcoming Academy Awards. With high profile brand ambassadors like Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron, it's only a matter of time before one of these creations land on a major red carpet.
And in case you missed it, one dress looked suspiciously like Charlize Theron's gorgeous blush dress seen at the 2012 Golden Globe Awards!

We finally had a peek behind the couture curtain during Paris Fashion Week, as Donatella Versace staged her first presentation of Atelier Versace - Spring Couture 2012 was an assortment of 15 real life models wearing the dresses, not the styled photos we have become so used to. The details were magnificent - a futuristic display of column gowns, structured corsets, shimmering in silver, gold and a splash of citrus colours (lemon, lime and tangerine).
Materials included twinkling crystals, leather discs, peplum supported by arcs of gold aluminum, also used as trim and accents throughout. And the details were spectacular, as you can see in the detailed photos below - even the little biker jackets were full of matching texture and applique. With super narrow silhouettes, it's easy to picture Angelina Jolie or Nicole Kidman wearing any of the gowns to the Academy Awards. We only have to wait a few more weeks...

Inspiration: Rhapsody in Blue - flying high in couture.

Karl Lagerfeld's latest couture collection was all about the blues.. you could call it a "Rhapsody in Blue", as he staged the runway show in a very unique and rather magnificnet setting - the show took place in the inside of a plane in the Grand Palais!
As the master of haute couture, Karl once again managed to combine the timelessness of Chanel (elegant suits and classic shapes), with fresh new luxurious monochrome statements, all in blue. Oversized 50s inspired boat neck collars on dresses, jacket and coats, and a mixture of fabrics - tweed dusted with crystals, shimmer and shine, billowing sleeves and long skirts.
This was simple in shape but stunning in craftsmanship - I'm sure we will see some of these dresses on the red carpet, but this collection actually seemed better suited for the Parisian couture set. The Chanel client who prefers timeless pieces to the latest must-have seen on a celebrity. RATE THIS COLLECTION!
