Manolo Blahnik: For the love of shoes!

Tags: Manolo Blahnik

Manolo Blahnik: For the love of shoes! Some of us love handbags, others are hooked on makeup.. but many of us are secret Carrie Bradshaws at heart, it's all about the shoes! So it's no surprise that Rodeo Drive chose to present a Walk of Style Award to Manolo Blahnik.

This Spanish designer was born in 1942 & raised in the Canary Islands. He studied art in Paris, and started his fashion career working in the Zapata fashion boutique while writing for Vogue Italia. It was legendary fashion editor Diana Vreeland who convinced him to focus solely on footwear after seeing his portfolio of fashion & set designs. in 1972, after an invitation from Ossie Clarke to design shoes for his runway show, he bought the Zapata boutique with a small loan and opened his very first store. And the rest is fashion history!

One recent footnote, in 2007, Blahnik was awarded the honorary title of Commander of the British Empire for his service to the British fashion industry.

Manolos (as they are lovingly known!) can be found in most major luxury department stores worldwide, check out the latest collection online at NEIMAN MARCUS . Editor's Picks & lot of Manolos below!
