This is the first significant Gilet I've seen on the red carpet (note use of the word "significant"!).. this was a trend we all knew was coming, and it was only a matter of time before a celeb took the plunge..  "gilet is a sleeveless jacket or vest.... often worn as an outer layer, for extra warmth outdoors".

No surprise that it's Maggie Gyllenhaal, snapped here at the MoMa Film Benefit Gala Honoring Baz Luhrmann. She is known for both her independent spirit and fashion forward choices. I'm not sure if her gilet is real, but there are some fabulous faux fur choices out there (and shown here). This trend isn't about real fur, it's the concept/shape... perhaps the most significant gilet ad campaign came from Hermes, who did a whole "Mongolian Chic" promotion against a white snowy backdrop (plenty of sheepskin & wool). I would combine this with skinny jeans & tall boots - your gilet thrown over a nice fitted turtleneck, preferably in black. Plus I'm a big fan of cozy chic, and this fits the bill!
