Trends for Spring/Summer 2009: Asymmetric (one-shoulder) Tops & Dresses

This major trend first appeared on the red carpet last, picked up momentum over the holiday season, and is now one of the most unique trends of the new season. Asymmetric means one-sided, and refers to one-shoulder tops & dresses (that diagonal look!).

Some of the most popular looks this season combine the one-shoulder trend with another popular trend- for example, asymmetric dresses with large tiered ruffles, or one-shoulder tops in tropical colors.

You can wear asymmetric in a romantic style, or keep it edgy with the 80s rocker vibe popular this season. Pair a black & metallic asymmetric top with black skinny jeans & gladiator sandals. Or find a dreamy floral chiffon asymmetric dress in shades of pink & yellow. Both fit the trend perfectly!
