Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 Handbags: A collection full of texture, the 1950s & hello again Speedy!

Tags: Fall 2010 | Handbags | Louis Vuitton | Paris Fashion Week | Runway

louisvuitton-fall2010Perhaps it's a little too soon to talk about Fall 2010 trends, as runway looks are at least 5 months away from a real-life purchase, but handbags have become such an important part of our wardrobe that it's nice to know what's hot even before it actually IS hot!

Marc Jacobs Louis Vuitton runway show is always an exciting part of Paris Fashion Week, watched for clothing trends as much as the coveted handbags, and on a sunny day, a litter of new styles were unveiled. The clothing was full of big skirts, and wasp waists - think Mad Men meets The Sound of Music, that sums up the look & feel.

These bags will have certain fashionistas waiting at the ready for pre-release samples. One of Louis Vuitton's traditional handbags, the Speedy, dominated the collection, and you will see variety of materials and fabrics in this signature shape. From the very busy textured leather, crocodile and even (gasp) sequins, to some fabulous smooth simple logo bags that evoke thoughts of Grace Kelly. Overall, this is a varied collection - while Speedy is the trend, variety is the end result as there is something here for everyone!

Spring 2010 Handbag Trends: Snakeskin, python & other reptiles

Tags: Accessories Trend | Handbags | Snakeskin | Spring 2010 | Statement Handbags

Reptiles & amphibians were very noticeable on the Spring/Summer 2010 runway - the most notable collection from Alexander McQueen. "Plato's Atlantis" was a dreamy underwater world of glorious colour with fish scale and psychedelic python prints.

And now one of the most luxurious handbag trends this season is snakeskin & python effects - you can find quite the selection of eye-catching colour, as well as subtle nude & neutral shades (which remains the biggest trend of the new season). The largest selection of python & snakeskin comes from Jimmy Choo - the iconic brand updated signature handbags in dazzling python.. both the Odette and Saba are available in new reptile embossed prints.

Traditional snakeskin is neutral & brown, but that doesn't mean you can't find stunning bursts of colour. Pauric Sweeney has a fabulous statement pink patchwork python bag shown below, and even Lanvin got into the reptile game with a soft metallic python bag. More below..

Spring 2010 Accessories Trend: Splash of Hot Pink Part II

Tags: Accessories Trend | Color | Handbags | Pink | Shoes | Shopping | Spring 2010

This is Part II of a Hot Pink Profile, a tropical neon shade that is fast becoming THE must-have accent colour! Part I of the pink profile covered hot pink clothing, a welcome & stylish change from the neutral palette that dominates the new season. And now we have accessories - which covers everything from Handbags, Shoes, Jewellery, Scarves... and anything else that isn't clothing!

As usual, style icon Sarah Jessica Parker was Spring fashion forward when she arrived at The Late Show With David Letterman for her appearance back in December. Now THIS is major splash of pink - in addition to the colour, she has given instant recognition to a new designer. Her bag is by Diane De Maria, called the Small Bonnie Satchel, and we will definitely provide links if/when this collection becomes available online.

Hot Handbag Alert: Mulberry Spring 2010 Collection & buy must-have Alexa handbag online!

Tags: Celebrity Trends | Handbags | Mulberry | Spring 2010 | Statement Handbags

alexachung-2009dec28It's time to take a look at upcoming handbags for Spring 2010, and the most talked-about of the new season - Mulberry's Alexa handbag! Named after errant British model-turned-TV-presenter Alexa Chung, it is widely considered to be one of the first must-have bags of 2010. Speaking of Alexa, her MTV show "It's On With Alexa Chung" has just been cancelled - at the same time Vogue magazine has named her the most stylish person of 2009. Talk about mixed messages!

A quick look at Mulberry's Spring/Summer 2010 shows an homage to faded beauty.. a bit of naughty schoolgirls combined with prom queens, according to Creative Director Emma Hill. What I see here is a very wearable collection that combines a quirky girlie style with usual Mulberry urban chic (meant to be worn in the heart of London!). Collections photos below.. complete with poacher jacket, shorts & feminine dresses in a soft natural & pastel colour palette.

Check out photos of Alexa with her very own Alexa, and highlights of Mulberry Spring 2010  below...

Fall/Winter 2009 Handbag Trends: Chain Link Straps

Tags: Chains | Handbags | Statement Handbags | Winter 2009

There's a new twist on an existing handbag trend, and it looks like our favorite celebs already have a head start! Rachel Bilson has been snapped out & about in Los Angeles carrying a dynamite new chain link handbag by Derek Lam, shown here.

Which brings me to the trend.. chain strap handbags! While this isn't new (Chanel classic bags come to mind), they have started to appear in all shapes & sizes, with added touches like fringe & hardware. You may prefer shoulder bags, like Rachel, but satchels & top handle bags also have chains to choose from.

The colour trend in handbags this season is quite varied - if you're wearing basic black, don't hesitate to add a splash of colour (red, or purple), or even an interesting pattern like Marc Jacobs' green & blue Misfit bag. Continue reading below...
